Twenty-five white stars around the diamond signify that Arkansas was the twenty-fifth state to join the Union. Four stars surround the word Arkansas in the center of the flag. The top star recognizes Arkansas as a Confederate State during the civil War. The other three stars represent Spain, France and the United States as countries that had rule over the land. The Apple Blossom is the state flower. At one point in time, Arkansas was a major apple producing state.
